Exercising with arthritis - a patient story

Margaret, 77, shares her story about how being diagnosed with arthritis lead her to increased her exercise and make new friends.

I was diagnosed with arthritis in both my knees and arms 12 years ago. Since then I have had both knees replaced and I struggled to walk, this inspired me to lose weight as I still wanted to live my life to the full.

I joined the gym and swimming world to help me. I really like the gym and do classes there. I particularly enjoy the aqua fit and have been going to this class on a weekly basis for years. I really love it and I have made many new friends. We regularly meet up to do the aqua fit and then enjoy a coffee in the cafe afterwards.

I also started going to slimming world once a week. I have now lost 2 1⁄2 stone and has reached my target.

I now feel a lot better in myself and I am able to enjoy my life. My daughter lives in Spain and I am able to visit her 3 or 4 times a year. I also enjoy trips to bingo with my friends and family. I feel I wouldn't have been able to do these things if I had not looked at myself.
